Ghent

old man, bike, and the doggyAfter visiting London and two hard weeks of studying for Paulo, we were off for a little R&R in Ghent, Belgium. A wonderful historical town full of the arts, historical buildings, shopping, and thriving college population.

Our main reason for heading to Ghent was to see Kurt Elling, one of our most favorite vocal jazz artist. He was playing with many others at Blue Notes Jazz Festival, which is held annually in Ghent. Those Belgiums love that jazz! After Kurt took the stage, we hit him up for an autograph. Paulo was able to score a 5×7 black and white photo of Kurt Elling for free. When Kurt saw little Amira sitting next to Paulo, he was overtaken by her beauty and signed the photo for her and not for Paulo. Well, some day Amira will really love this. It says, “To Beautiful Amira Have a fun life”. But to make the story even better, as Paulo was taking Amira out of her stroller to take a photo with Kurt, we realized she had made a mess all over herself and the stroller! Fortunately, Kurt Elling was very gracious and we all laughed it off. Someone needs to tell Amira, first impressions are everything.

Well to top off a great trip, the day we were leaving just happened to be the day Tour de France was rolling through Ghent! Karin couldn’t let such an opportunity pass. So, we all headed to the streets of Ghent to watch the cyclists race through the city. We were only 200 meters from the finish line. Boy was it crowded!
